A Rose by any other name…
This was a bit of a surprise to us…the demand for old and previously owned perfume! Which proves the old saying, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. This is also the fun part of our shopping for profit, discovering little known facts about the world around us.
A genuine Chic Parisien, the House of Guerlain was founded in 1828 by Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain. The first store was located in 42, rue de Rivoli, Paris. The Guerlain family owned the House until 1994 when it was sold to the LMVH group, the French luxury goods giant. As of 2008, Jean-Paul Guerlain, a fourth generation perfumer of the family, is still active as an adviser.
Shalimar (1925) was created by Jacques Guerlain (Pierre-François Pascal grandson). As its name suggests it is an oriental fragrance. In the Guerlain website it is described as a voluptuous, sensual and bewitching perfume (quote: “wearing Shalimar means surrendering control to the senses”)
Aramis is one of the oldest of the Estee Lauder Company’s more than twenty-five recognized brands, launched in 1964 as the first line of cosmetics products designed specifically for men.
The signature Tommy Hilfiger cologne was launched in 1995 and has warm scents of cinnamon and cranberry.
Calvin Klein, a pioneer of designer jeans, underwear and the wholesome, all-American look, and launched Truth Calvin Klein Men in 2002. It is a scent drawn from nature. Loris Azzaro (b. 1933) was a French fashion designer, known for his glamorous party dress creations for French high society women. He found success rather quickly. With his first store opening in 1962, his business had become well established by 1968. Over time he dressed many celebrities such as Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren and most recently, Nicole Kidman. In 1996, the male fragrance Chrome came onto the scene and is now one of the top selling men’s colognes in the market.
